Get the Look: Leopard Print

Photo Credit: via pinkwasteland; via thisisglamorous pinterest

Leopard print... statement-worthy, attention-grabbing, and ultra-feminine.

Get the look for less than $100 with this BB Dakota leopard print top.

For the designer pick, this 3.1 Phillip Lim leopard print skirt is super cute & it's definitely a fun skirt to add spice to any wardrobe full of bland basics and serious neutrals. I also love the idea of carrying the look over to home decor -- an animal print decorative pillow, maybe a fun picture frame, or even a chair or sofa...

How do you wear leopard print? Do you include animal print pieces in your home decor?

Model Karolina Kurkova looks lovely in a green, asymmetrical Elie Saab gown.

What do you think about the dress paired with the green heels - too matchy matchy or an on-trend monochromatic look?

5 Questions With: Designer Wes Gordon

Up-and-coming designer Wes Gordon has been profiled in Vogue and you can shop his eponymous line at Bergdorf's, Harrods, and Saks. Want to know more?

Wes Gordon's designs convey a sense of luxury, timeless elegance and sophistication with a young, modern edge. After seeing his collections, it's easy to see why Wes Gordon is widely considered a rising star in fashion. We chatted with the talented young designer about his Fall Collection, his Southern roots and more...

What was the inspiration behind the Fall 2012 collection?

WES GORDON: I loved the idea of Rooney Mara as 'Great Expectations' Estella. The collection was very romantic and elegant, but dark and slightly disheveled at the same time.

Did you have a particular color palette in mind for the Fall Collection? What colors did you decide to work with?

WG: Fall tends to be a bit darker by nature. The fabrics I used (brocades, embroidered wools, heavy cashmere) were done in rich hues of oxblood, malachite, saffron, and aubergine.

Do you have a favorite piece that you’ve designed?

WG: Impossible to pick! Tailoring is my passion so for fall I'm always especially proud of our coats.

You were raised in Atlanta. How have your Southern roots influenced your style?

WG: The South has an aesthetic and elegance that is unlike anywhere else - there's definitely a distinct romance and drama that is present in my designs.

You recently received FGI’s Rising Star Award for women’s ready-to-wear, tying with designer Misha Nonoo. How did you react when you got the call that you won? How did you celebrate after winning the award?

WG: It was a huge honor to be recognized by FGI in a room full of people I admire so much - Ralph Rucci, Tommy Hilfiger, Nina Garcia, and many others. As for celebrating – it was straight back to the studio to finish my Fall Collection in time for Fashion Week!

Runway Retrospective

Marchesa Fall 2012 RTW

I'll be honest: this post was inspired by my recent addiction to Project Runway Allstars! Cristina here with a new Runway Retrospective, focusing on the dazzling Marchesa Fall 2012 collection. Seeing the impeccable workmanship of this collection reaffirms my respect for Project Runway judge and Marchesa designer, Georgina Chapman. The pieces are all feminine and flattering, just the type of gown any girl would love to wear on a special night.

Marchesa Fall 2012 RTW

With every Marchesa collection, I always have fun predicting which celebrity is going to wear which dress on the red carpet. I think the red lace number above would look smashing on Rooney Mara. And the short white dress in the top right is so Clemence Poesy!

Who do you think will be sporting these looks on the red carpet?

Liya Kebede and Liu Wen look smart and strong in buttoned up looks in bright citrus hues.

With the collar buttoned all the way up, the collared shirts, paired with a sophisticated blazer in the same bright shade, result in an interesting, intellectual and fresh look for spring.

Get the look with this quirky cool Jason Wu stretch-cotton shirt. This shirt is a bit tomboy, a bit feminine, and it's definitely the perfect pick for the fashion girl.

Another fun fashion pick: Rag & Bone's bright orange blazer - it's sleek, chic and way bright! This blazer also comes in another delightful color option (Rag & Bone blazer in curry yellow).

The Trench.

The Hair.

A well-placed bow is perfectly feminine and sweet. On the Burberry trench, the bow belt cinches the waist of the iconic trench in a timelessly elegant way. The tiny black bow hair tie wrapping up soft curls looks delicate, pretty and fresh for spring.

Look for Less: Geometric Room Divider

Hello everyone! Have any of you been searching for a great way to divide your room into designated areas? I personally have been looking for something that would divide an area without adding bulk. I also wanted it to also be aesthetically pleasing.

I came across this gorgeous room in the March/April 2012 issue of Lonny Magazine. This room is actually in the Upper East Side office of designer, Amanda Nisbet. What really caught my eye was the beautiful screen she used to partially cover her bookcase.

The screen in question is the Jonathan Adler "Desmond" Screen and is priced at $1,500. If you don't care for this particular divider but don't mind splurging, Layla Grace offers two great options. They offer Arteriors' "Black Wood Mandala Room Screen" and "Guilded Wood Open Screen". I must say I really love the gold one!

If you're looking to save, look no further than Target. Their Room Divider with Circle Pattern comes in both white and black and gives you the same look as the Jonathan Adler-designed option at an affordable $223.99. Although it is currently sold out online, they will be restocking it soon - so be on the lookout. These geometric room dividers are both functional and chic!

Runway Retrospective

jil sander fall 2012

Hey ladies, Cristina here. In pouring over the Milan Fashion Week offerings, one collection in particular spoke 'young' and 'sophisticated' to me, and that was Jil Sander Fall 2012. My favorite movies growing up were always to be found on Turner Classic Movies (I was an unusual kid) and I found this collection to be beautifully reminiscent of Grace Kelly.

A lovely color palette of blush pinks, reds, and navy blue were set against a stunning backdrop of flowers encased in acrylic boxes. Although this is a fall collection, it appealed to the (large) part of me that is very eagerly awaiting the arrival of spring!

Decor Inspiration

Hello Sophisticates, it's Viv again! Decorating a home can be very costly. It all adds up quickly, don't you think? Today I want to talk about a simple way to decorate an important room - the living room. Coffee table arrangements can make all the difference. A living room can come together nicely with the right coffee table styling - flowers, books, vintage objects, candles - anything really! My personal favorite is a beautiful tray. Perhaps an elegant Hermes tray should be my next purchase! You can achieve so much with so little.

Hello, Graffiti!

Photo Credit: via Searching for Style

Normally I'm all about the pretty, but I really appreciate French fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier's tireless efforts to push fashion forward (despite sometimes going a bit too far, in my opinion - ahem, remember the recent Amy Winehouse homage controversy).

There's something about this edgy street vibe look; mixed with the hot pink fur throw (from the Fall 2012 collection), it just works! Sometimes, fashion needs to go in sort of a whack direction to make sense.

What do you think? Is this runway look CRAZY or COOL?

With the rugged Australian Outback serving as the inspiration behind the Rodarte Fall 2012 collection, the Mulleavy sisters crafted a gloriously original and inspired collection.

The hair, hot pink eyeshadow and edgy geometric necklace works all together to make such a major style statement. I can definitely get behind this edgy outback look; how about you?

Look for Less: A Pretty Vanity

Hello everyone! I can't believe it's already March and I'm here again to tell you how to get the look for less.

Nothing really says "girly" like a vanity. I always had one as a little girl but now I find that it can actually serve a practical function for me.

A vanity for your bedroom or even your closet, if it's big enough, is perfect for applying makeup and perfume.

It can also be the stage for sentimental photos or jewelry that you want to display.

This vanity serves as a beautiful accent to this guest room designed by David Brian Sanders Interior Design Studio. The mirrored surface, large mirror, and velvet tufted seat are all glamorous touches. This vanity is chic and anything but girly.

Hayworth Mirror & Vanity

Photo Credit: via davidbriansanders.com, via pier1

If a mirrored vanity is what you're looking for, look no further than Pier 1 imports. Their "Hayworth" collection features a variety of mirrored pieces. Their Vanity and Mirror are sold separately. However, the total is a little over $500 which is well below other options out there. Pier 1 also offers a Hayworth Vanity Bench, which is also mirrored and perfect companion to the vanity and mirror. If you want something completely different and rustic, Pottery Barn's Chloe Vanity is a great option and is sure to make a statement in any room it's in. It has a built-in mirror, beautiful detailing, and hooks on each side for your jewelry.

Do you have a desk or table in your home that is underused? Try using that as a vanity. All you have to add is a pretty mirror and a comfortable seat. Put a lamp, some trays to hold candles, flowers, or trinkets and you'll have a pretty space to get ready.
