Runway Retrospective

Hey Sophisticates, it's Cristina from Fuji Files here with a new Runway Retrospective. While the temperatures here in Texas may not reflect it, we're nearing summer's end. I'm not quite ready to put away my bright colors and tropical prints just yet, so I'm looking to Australian designer Lisa Ho's latest collection for inspiration to ease into fall.

Pants and blazers in fun prints are a lightweight way to cover up once the weather starts to turn. And I'm finding it hard to resist these colorful streaks in the hair! Evening gowns and neon extensions are not a choice I ever would have made myself, but I love the contrast. If I had my prom to do again, I'd definitely add some color into my hair!

Trend Report: Gilded

Fashion houses like Dolce and Gabana (pictured above) and Marni signaled the return of gold-embroidered garments when they included this luxe look as part of their fall 2012 collections. The decadent brocade, beautiful embellishments and ornate gold detailing are all reminiscent of the Baroque period.

Give florals a second thought. Erdem Pre-Fall 2012 reimagines standard florals in a fresh new context. And, that chic navy trench styled with yellow pointed toed heels (pictured above, at center) is absolutely to die for! Gorgeous. What do you think?

Look for Less: Lucite Bar Stools

Hello Sophisticates! It's Marche' from #eyecandy here with another Look for Less column! By now you all know that I love lucite! I recently purchased some lucite goods for my office. Next on my list may be a gorgeous set of clear bar stools like the ones used in this kitchen (pictured above) designed by Amanda Nisbet. Let's be honest, I would actually take the whole kitchen.

For a similar bar stool, cb2's Vapor Barstools (below) fit the bill. The high back and chrome legs would look great in any space. If you want a different look, you can purchase a set of 2 Bettino Acrylic Counter Stools from Rug USA for under $300! These stools are shaped much like traditional bar stools. If you are still looking for the perfect lucite bar stools, sites 1st dibs and even Ebay often have sets of gorgeous vintage lucite stools.

ELKIN

I'm seriously impressed with new label ELKIN, a women's ready-to-wear line by LA-based designers Kara and Brit Smith. ELKIN's aesthetic is feminine with the right amount of edge.

Inspired by science fiction, ELKIN's fall collection reads cool, complex and a bit futuristic.

Star Styling

Hi there Sophisticates, Crissie here, from Chicasaurus-Rex with the latest installment of Star Styling, really I can't believe this is the first appearance Her Royal Highness is making in my column - I'm pretty obsessed with Kate's style

As always, Kate keeps things simple with the outfit she wore to watch an Olympic tennis match, pairing a bright blue dress with a tailored blazer and no accessories save a chic clutch (and that RING, of course). You can't see her feet in any of the photos of this ensemble, but I know she love her some pumps (because we're BFF, not because I relentlessly stalk her style...) I think she'd be very happy with my choice of footwear here... And on a side note - don't be surprised if you spot me wearing this look in the near future. It's just too good!

Here's how to ger the look for yourself: Dress from Top Shop, blazer from Mango, bag by Magid, shoes by Gomax

Decor Inspiration

Hi Sophisticates! Viv here from the fashion and style blog Fashion Truffles. There's something about the classic French chevron floor pattern that's been catching my eye as of late. A chevron patterned floor features the planks in a diagonal setting, all meeting in a center line. The shortest edges are cut at an angle which creates the look of an overall straight line.

Runway Retrospective

As I (Cristina) write this post, I'm totally and utterly enthralled in (can you guess?) the Olympics! Amazed by the gymnasts impressed by the runners and in awe of the trampolinists (did anyone see how high they jump?!). So the inspiration for this post? Red, white, blue, and of course gold! It looks like Michael Kors may have been channeling Olympians when he designed his Resort 2013 collection.

As an American sportswear designer at the top of his game (pun fully intended), I would have loved to see his designs at the Olympics! Just imagine the leotards and the swimwear he could create, his one pieces are always to die for.

Look for Less: Neon Throw Pillows

Pinned Image

Hello Sophisticates! It's Marche' from #eyecandy, back with another Look for Less column! Neon has been such a major trend for a few seasons. What could be more fun than to add neon to your home? When I laid eyes on this living room (pictured above) from rug designer, Beth Arrowood's home tour, I was instantly drawn to the pillows! They are the perfect pop of color in this super girly living room. The deep teal sofa and chartreuse pillows complement each other beautifully.

For the best selection of fun, neon throw pillows, look no further than etsy. These citron pillows by Studio Tullia are a beautiful shade of yellow! You can display the solid side or the side with ribbon embellishment! If you prefer your bright pillows with a pattern, Aqua Door Designs' cushion with fluro pink design is a gorgeous option! Also try Earth Cadets chevron pillow in neon pink. Two trends in one pillow? Yes, please! If you don't mind splurging a little on your pillows, Gracious Style's Neon Piper Linen throw pillows are simple with a slight accent of neon. I love this pillow because it will still be a classic long after this trend fades.

Try these pillows in your home. I think they would look really awesome in an all-white space!

Star Styling: Jordana Brewster

Hi there Sophisticates, Crissie here, from Chicasaurus-Rex with the latest installment of Star Styling, featuring Dallas star Jordana Brewster!

This is how to wear a bold pattern correctly ladies! Pick a big, bold print for one piece and tone done the rest of the look (but keep it chic-chic-chic, of course!). Jordana does this by sticking with neutral colors in the same tone as her bold skirt. She keeps her jewelry and accessories classic and simple as well, so as not to compete with the pattern of the skirt. The overall look? Flawless!

Here's how to get the look for yourself: Top from Dorothy Perkins, skirt from Hobbs, bag by Latico Penelope, shoes by Sam Edelman, earrings from Fine Jewelers, watch from Target
